Over five decades behind the lens
From an attic darkroom in Leeds to international galleries, discover the lifelong passion for monochrome photography that shapes Fine Art Yorkshire.

From a Leeds darkroom to press photography
I have had a camera in my hands since I was twelve years old. My father, a dedicated newspaper photographer, helped me set up my first photographic darkroom in the attic of our home in Leeds. Starting my career as a press photographer on the Yorkshire Evening Post in the early 1960s, I quickly understood the power of black and white imagery. While we once worked in ten-by-eight-inch formats for the newspaper my passion evolved towards capturing bold, atmospheric landscapes that transport you directly into the scene or back in time.

International acclaim and celebrated exhibitions
Over a career spanning more than fifty years, my work has earned recognition among art collectors across the globe. My prints have been exhibited internationally, from Carnegie Hall in New York to San Francisco, Prague, Dubai, and London. Closer to home, having my photography showcased alongside David Hockney’s work at the historic Salts Mill in Saltaire, Yorkshire, remains a defining milestone. Today, I bring that same gallery-grade dedication to every limited edition print available through Fine Art Yorkshire.

The craft of large format monochrome imagery
Today's interiors require statement pieces that command attention. In my Yorkshire studio, I specialise in large format monochrome prints crafted with meticulous attention to detail. I spend days preparing every individual image prior to printing, working extensively on the tones, deep blacks, and delicate greys to heighten texture and depth. Each archival piece is produced to museum standards, bringing an evocative presence and a genuine sense of atmosphere to your home or workspace.
"The tonal depth of the Yorkshire landscape print is breathtaking. It brings a profound sense of atmosphere and history to our space every single day."
